These five players were the biggest standouts in the whole combine.
- Montez Sweat
Montees Sweat had unbelievable combine where he broke the record for a 40 time for a defensive lineman. He ran 4.41 that is insane, a man who is 6’6 and weighs 245 that lifted his stock pretty high. The former Mississippi State star opened eyes in January at the Reese’s Senior Bowl with a dominant week of practice and he’s kept the buzz going with a spectacular performance at the combine. He moved quickly through the bags, exhibiting outstanding lateral quickness and change-of-direction ability.
2. DK Metcalf
WOW, is all I said when I saw former Ole Miss University receiver Metcalf in the combine this weekend. He had one of the best combine I have ever seen so far. This man is 6’3 weighs in at 228 and ran a 4.33 for his 40 time. He also had 27 reps at the bench press lifting 225 and had a vertical jump of 40.5. I did have Metcalf as a late first rounder going into the draft but that might not happen in real life now because he went up a lot in drafts broads after this performance.
3. Noah Fant
This former tight end from Missouri had to live in the shadow of his teammate T.J. Hockenson. But in the combine Fant performed just as well if not better than Hockenson who going into the draft as the number 1 tight end. Fant is 6’4 weighs 249 pounds, he was able to run a 4.50 in his 40 yard dash giving him the fastest time at the combine fro tight ends. Fant also had 20 reps at the bench press and a 39.5 vertical leap. Fant project as second round pick but with his performance at the combine he might be a mid or late first round pick.
4. Justice Hill
Hill had combine similar to last year 2nd overall pick New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley. Hill ran a 4.4 for his 40, 21 reps on the bench press, also a vertical leap of 40 inches exact. The only big difference between the two is that Barkley had 29 reps. Hill put a great combine overall which has improve his draft stock really well. When Hill was at Oklahoma State he did show flashes of big play ability. The only question for Hill is it can he be consistent. I do think after this combine he will might go in the 3rd round.
5. Devin White
A lot of people already knew that Louisiana State University lineback Devin White is a great athlete. In this year combine White showed the NFL world he deserves to be a top 10 pick. He had a 40 time of 4.42 which was the best out of all linebackers, a solid 22 reps on bench press and a vertical jump of 39.5 inches. White is 6 foot solid and is 237 pounds. Many people outside of me thought he should go top 15 because of his size, but his performance showed what we have seen on tape is not a joke. He is an athletic linebacker that can tackle, if White is not drafted in the top 10 he will be a steal in the later 1st round.
The only thing we all need to remember about all these players is that the tape does not lie. Even though they all had great combines but their play on the field says other wise. Look at current Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver John Ross, ran a 4.22 and was pick in the 1st round and has never lived up to the hype.
