I have no idea what the Chicago Cubs are doing this offseason. Are they trying to win or trying to rebuild?
So many rumors this offseason has surrounded players like Kyle Schwarber, Anthony Rizzo and Kris Byrant.
The biggest surprise out of them all is third baseman Kris Byrant who is only 27 years old and will not be a free agent until 2022. Why would they trade him?
That questions won’t be solved until we see what he is actually traded for.
Here are the best trade packages for the former MVP:
5. Washington Nationals
Nationals receive: Kris Byrant
Cubs receive: 3B Drew Mendoza, RHP Matt Cronin and INF Wilmer Difo
After, winning the World Series the Nationals lost their third baseman Anthony Rendon to the Los Angeles Angels in free agency. So, they have a big hole at third that needs to be addressed.
I think this package is great for the Cubs they if want to go younger overall.
4. Atlanta Braves
Braves receive: Kris Byrant
Cubs receive: RHP Ian Anderson, RHP Huascar Ynoa and a player to be named later
The Braves now entering a window where they have a chance at winning World Series if they fill in the holes they at third and at starting pitching.
If the Braves go out and get Bryant they will be a powerhouse in the NL. They might even the favorites to win the NL over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
3. Texas Rangers
Rangers receive: Kris Byrant
Cubs receive: RHP Cole Winn, OF Leody Taveras and INF/OF Jonathan Ornelas
To me, this is the trade partner for the Cubs. The Rangers have a lot of good prospects and they are big need of a star. If they open that new stadium without a star, fans will question the team.
Plus, they are in the AL so the Cubs don’t have to worry about facing Byrant unless he signs with an NL team in 2022.
2. Los Angeles Dodgers
Dodgers receive: Kris Byrant
Cubs receive: RHP Dustin May, C Diego Cartaya and 2B Enrique Hernandez
The Dodgers might be on code red right now. They missed out on Gerrit Cole, Anthony Rendon, Madison Bumgarner and others.
Byrant is one of the best players and biggest names in all of baseball which what the Dodgers have not had in a while. Yes, the Bellinger but he needs help, I do think Byrant can do that. He knows what it is like in the playoffs and knows how to win.
If the Dodgers want to get over the hump they need a right-handed power bat and some relief pitchers.
1.San Deigo Padres
Padres receive: Kris Byrant
Cubs receive: LHP MacKenzie Gore, RHP Michel Baez and OF Will Myers
The Padres hands down can offer Cubs the best package for Byrant. The Padres have one of the best farm systems in all of baseball.
Plus they are looking for another infielder. If you can add Byrant with Machado, Tatis Jr. and Hosmer. The Padres will be contenders for the playoffs and maybe the NL pennant.
